Keyword, page, and performance data plus advanced reports like cannibalization, content decay, and striking distance — all at Claude's fingertips.

I first came across Semust on LinkedIn, back when it was just starting to gain attention. Curious, I decided to give it a try—and it’s now become one of my favorite tools. What I appreciate most is how it handles many tasks that I used to perform manually with a single click, which makes my job significantly easier. Seeing how quickly it has evolved since the first time I used it also inspires confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Semust MCP

What is MCP and Why It Matters

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard published by Anthropic in 2024. It defines a common language for connecting AI assistants to external tools and data, removing the need to write every integration from scratch.

In practice, this means you can connect a platform like Semust to Claude or Cursor with a single config step. SEO teams now skip the dashboard-and-export dance and ask their assistant directly.

What You Can Do with Semust MCP

List keywords, find pages losing traffic, surface 'striking distance' keywords close to the first page, and generate monthly reports — all with a single prompt.

You can chain multiple tools: ask for a 'full SEO audit' and Claude will call 5–6 reports in sequence and summarize the result for you.

Installation: Claude Desktop and Cursor

Grab your API key from the Semust dashboard, clone the semust-mcp repo from GitHub (or download as ZIP), and run pip install -r requirements.txt.

Then add the Semust MCP entry to claude_desktop_config.json (or Settings → MCP Servers in Cursor). After restarting the app, you should see 'semust' under the tool icon with all 13 tools listed.

13 Tools at a Glance

Data tools: list_projects, get_keywords, get_pages, get_performance. They tap directly into your Search Console data and support date range, device, and country filters.

Report tools: cannibalization, content decay, winner/loser, striking distance, long-tail, low CTR, thin content, monthly summary, questions. Each answers one specific SEO question.

Security: Your API Key Stays With You

The strongest part of the MCP architecture is that it runs locally. Your Semust API key is stored only on your computer — it's never sent to Anthropic or any third party.

Claude only sees the response to the request you make — for example, asking for 'top 20 keywords' returns the JSON list from Semust and renders it on screen. No key exchange, no raw data storage.

Typical Use Cases

For agencies: before a client call, say 'build last month's SEO report' and get a complete monthly summary in minutes.

For content teams: ask 'which questions bring me traffic' to surface real user queries for FAQs and blog topics.
